In a change from the comics we've highlighted before, The Travelers is a print publication put out by KenzerCo, the people who bring you Knights of the Dinner Table. At first, I thought this comic was a pastiche of boring stereotypes -- the barbarian woman, the drunken priest, the noble knight -- but after reading it, I found out it went deeper then that. Sure, the plots twists were all "fantasy standards" in their own way, but there is a wry humor here, a sort of tongue-and-cheek light touch missing from more broad satire like Knights of the Dinner Table. It rapidly grew on me, and I found myself eager for more. It's also a surprisingly literate work -- I particularly liked casting Thomas Aquinas as a sort of priestly superhero. For a gamer who wants something a bit off the beaten path but still funny and dramatic by turns, The Travelers is the way to go.
