New from Mongoose: The Quintessential Wizard
One of the best selling series from D20 is back – better than ever, fully re-written and updated for 4th edition. Designed by Italian studio Asterion Press, the all new Quintessential range begins explosively with the Quintessential Wizard. Each Quintessential book is a complete toolkit for players, dedicated to a single character class or race.
Raw magic power: the essence of all true fantasy role-playing games. In a world where magic permeates all aspects of daily life, a wizard is the undisputed lord of arcane lore. If you think that a wizard’s only way to express his true might is by casting a mundane fireball, take a look at THE QUINTESSENTIAL WIZARD and think again!

It's not a bad supplement, especially for those looking for a different implement, or for those looking for more than the 11 mediocre paragon paths available in the PHB, FRPG, MotP, and Dun. The metamagic feats are as a rule fairly balanced (though I initially thought otherwise), but may require a houserule limiting the number of times a character can take the Durability feat. There is also a small problem with rules language, particularly with ambiguous or contradictory wording in a few of the feats, but a visit to the Mongoose forums seems to demonstrate their willingness to clarify on demand.
Overall, a worthy addition, but the options it gives are best presented to the DM on a case-by-case basis.
