Cartoon Action Hour: Season 2 is the second edition of the role-playing game that was nominated for “Best RPG” at the 2004 Origins Awards. It was designed specifically to emulate the fun and excitement of the 1980s action-adventure cartoons at every turn, using "cartoon logic" as its foundation.
Designer Cynthia Celeste Miller comments: “The first edition of the game was solid, but I don’t feel it went far enough to recreate the feel of the retro-toons. At its heart, it was still a pretty traditional role-playing game. This time around, I decided to go that extra step to ensure that the game system worked exactly the way the cartoons played out. For example, ‘combat’ isn’t necessarily true combat in the traditional sense. Characters can defeat their foes without actually causing physical damage… which was common in the retro-toons.”
CAH:S2 emphasizes fast and exciting game-play that can be wrapped up in an hour or less. This emphasis even extends to the character creation system, which allows players to whip up their heroes within 15 minutes. The rulebook even includes three ready-to-play series (Warriors of the Cosmos, Strikeforce Freedom and Transbots), complete with write-ups for more than 80 characters. In this day and age, time is a precious commodity for most gamers, so this fast-playing design philosophy makes squeezing in games much easier.
