Okay, back to web comics. College Roomies from Hell doesn't have the obvious
connection to gaming that a fantasy comic does. However, consider the
characters: All of the males have mutated from exposure to toxic waste, one
character is a werecoyote, another has had part of his soul placed in a cat
by an arcane ritual, and one of the female characters is supposed to birth
the last child before the Apocalypse. While I doubt the author intended it,
CRFH is essentially the World of Darkness played for laughs rather than for
personal horror (tho there is plenty of that as well), with an extensive
backstory with more interesting, well-written and funny twists and
turns than any trumped-up "metaplot". Oh, and who could forget the
zombies? (Of course, this means that people new to the stip may need some orientation, but the archives
are a fun read.)
Also, the author is happy to
let people roleplay in her world. There is a forum-based "Rooms & Mutants" RPG set up for that very purpose, with
games going on as we speak, though they aren't currently seeking new
players. (This doesn't mean CRFH won't spark RPG ideas for you. It
did for me, and some of it may find its way into my Changeling
chronicle...)
